First Impressions of the Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset
A few months ago, I tried virtual reality (VR) for the first time while racing. It was incredible! The way it made me feel like I was really in the game was amazing. I even stopped using my three-monitor setup because VR was so much better!
To test Pimax Crystal Light headset, I was super excited. The specs sounded great, and I wanted to see how it compared to my old headset, the Bigscreen Beyond.

The Good: Amazing Visuals and Comfort Tweaks

However, I had some trouble with how it fit at first. It was a bit uncomfortable, but then I switched the cushion for a thicker one, and it felt way better. This helped my eyes be in the right place to see clearly.

Also, this headset is pretty heavy over 800 grams! That’s a lot more than the Bigscreen Beyond. While it’s okay for racing since you sit down, it might be tiring if you use it for other VR games where you move around a lot.
Performance: Smooth but Needs Work
The Pimax Crystal Light can show a 6K resolution at 120Hz, but I couldn’t always hit that high number on my gaming setup with the Nvidia RTX 4080. I usually got around 100–110 frames per second, which is still smooth but not as fast as it could be.
I was really excited about the wider view, but honestly, it didn’t feel much different from my Bigscreen Beyond. I think the thicker cushion might have made it feel a bit smaller.
The Tracking Issue
Another thing to keep in mind is the tracking. Sometimes, the headset felt a little shaky, like I was playing at a lower frame rate. Luckily, I found out that you can fix this by adding a Lighthouse faceplate and using Steam VR base stations. This made the tracking much better, but it’s a hassle to set up extra equipment when it should work right away.
Audio: Needs an Upgrade
The sound from the headset isn’t great either. It works fine, but if you want a really awesome experience, you should get better speakers or headphones. The DMA speakers are a great upgrade if you want to enjoy the game sounds fully.

In the end, the Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset is a good upgrade for sim racing. The visuals are sharp, the view is wide, and it feels well-made. But the small sweet spot, weight, and tracking issues might make you think twice, especially because it costs a bit.
If you already have the Bigscreen Beyond, the upgrade might not be worth the extra money. But if you’re new to high-end VR headsets and want stunning visuals, the Pimax Crystal Light is worth checking out just know you might need to make some adjustments for comfort and tracking.
